(AT THE CASTLE) DA LORENZO
A HOLIDAY AT THE ISLAND OF FILICUDI - RENT ROOMS FOR YOUR HOLIDAYS.
Filicudi is an ideal island for anyone who wants
to spend his holidays close to nature,
far away from confusion and pollution caused by mass
tourism. It is one of the few places where progress hasn't changed nature.
"O CASTIEDDU" is located in Valdichiesa
and is situated 300 metres above sea level. To the north there are the
felci mountains from wich you have a wonderful view of the other eolian
islands and the coast of sicily and to the south it goes downhill towards
the sea.
Valdichiesa is about 4 Km from the sea so you can hire a car or a motor-cycle
or you can take a walk to the town on foot wich takes about 15 minutes.
All across the eolian island there are paths which give you the opportunity
to discover the most picturesque and wild spots of the islands.
"O Castieddu" is the biggest building of
this town and it dates back to the nineteenth century when Castellano
Liberatore, who is called "U Gnure" (Gentleman) arrived at
the eolian island. He reclaimed the land and gave work to the people
of Filicudi. He planted vines and caper bushes and is now buried in
the church of Valdichiesa.
He built a two-storied house, the ground floor was
for the servants and the deposit of goods whereas the first floor was
his luxurious residence after the emigration of the fifties when Filicudi
depopulated the big house remained empty until it was restored at the
end of the nineties.
When restoring the house, holiday flats were made to offer tourists
the possibility to spend their holidays in a magnificent and fascinating
place with a splendid view of the sea in which the other eolian islands
are reflected and from which you can admire Capograziano, famous for
its archaeological excavations which date back to the first settlements
of people.
All flats have two rooms, a kitchenette with fridge,
bathroom with shower and a typical large terrace with sea view and a
private entrance.
